Slip Disc (IVDP) - Treatment without side effects

Back spasm does not always lead to Lumbar Spondylitis or Spondylosis. Most of the times you don't even need to take X rays or MRI to get it diagnosed. Muscle spasm and inflammation can be easily diagnosed with specialized manual tests. If any nerve compression or disc prolapse is present that may also show up in the manual tests.Only in case of disc/nerve issues you may be sent for MRI to understand the level of prolapse accurately. Physiotherapy treatment is helpful in resolving these back related problems in the most appropriate manner.Best physiotherapy treatment for back pain involves modalities and techniques which not only subside the pain but treat the mechanical cause of pain completely. Being a drug/medicine free treatment, physiotherapy will not temporarily mask or cover the pain but totally end the cause. One in many cases may be extreme IVDP or slip disc where physiotherapy alone may not be helpful,in such cases a multi pronged approach may be required. Physio ...

RSI and Postural Syndrome

http://www.physicalhealthconsultants.com/the-physio-way.html RSI is largely a consequence of our day to day activities.Repetitive overuse or incorrect use of any muscular group over a long period of time is most often the cause of such problems. Some other terminologies such as Repetitive Movement Disorder and Cumulative Trauma are often interchangeably used to describe the same.Usage of computers in offices has increased the occurrence of such conditions in recent times. Upper back, wrist, neck region and lower back are most common areas of pain for computer professionals(software professional). Most of these pains are avoidable with frequent breaks between working hours, postural corrections and maintenance of regular exercise routines.Other causes of RSI can be attributed to incorrect prolonged postures such as prolonged standing in kitchen may relate to overuse syndrome or repetitive strain over the foot muscles.Watching television half lying on the bed or with the neck turne...

Sciatica Treatment @The Physical Health Consultants, Bangalore

http://www.physicalhealthconsultants.com/the-physio-way.html Sciatica pain is often associated with slip disc (intervertebral disc prolapse) in the lower lumbar spine.Sciatic nerve that is the main nerve supply to legs, is compressed due to the above and thus the sensation passes down to the legs.Pain is mostly felt in the back near nerve roots and radiates towards the legs as a pricking or numbing sensation.Disc compression may be mild or complete, severity of pain depends on that. There are many other factors that lead to similar pain sensation. On proper physical assessment with manual tests, your physio may be able to trace the cause of pain.If needed,MRI or X ray may be done for accurate diagnosis.Radiating sciatic pain that comes due to muscular causes such as hamstring tightness or piriformis muscle spasm may need different approach towards treatment than other reasons such as slip, disc or joint inflammation.Treatment duration varies depending on the cause of pain.Generally d...

Diabetic Polyneuropathy

Diabetes leads to a number of physical and physiological changes, diabetic foot is one of them.Diabetic foot is an umbrella term used to describe a number of problems that a chronic diabetic may face in the feet.People with a long history of diabetes often complain that while walking, they feel 'cloud' like sensation under their feet, this is due to altered sensory nerve conduction.Pain under the heel, burning, tingling, numbness or even faulty body balance can all be a result  of 'diabetic polyneuropathy'. Polyneuropathy as the name suggests, is a condition which symbolises improper  electrical conduction through multiple nerves in the foot.Swelling, delayed healing of injuries, change in the shape of toes/ toe nails are common features that describe this condition.Simple wounds get infected and may also form gangrene if proper care is not taken.Prevention is better than cure when it comes to diabetic foot.Regular foot examination, maintenance of hygiene and regul...

Neck Pain -Helmet May Worsen It

If you keep weight over a delicate structure,it is bound to compress the structure due to gravity. The impact of compression may be increased if the duration is more.We should apply the same logic to understand that a heavy and ill cushioned helmet may lead to pressure over the neck and upper back. This pressure can cause more problems if you keep the helmet on for long rides. We cannot isolate helmet as the only cause of neck pain in people; but it definitely is a contributing factor in those who use heavy helmets. This kind of pain is generally due to muscle spasm of the upper back and neck muscles in the beginning. If the usage continues for a long period and other factors such as computers, incorrect posture also come into play, pain may come due to vertebral joint involvement as well.Using a light weight yet safe helmet can help you staying away from the above mentioned consequences. This is possible only if you buy good quality certified helmets. Even after taking all care at work a...

Rheumatoid Arthritis

To put it simply, we can describe Rheumatoid arthritis as a condition which leaves the joints inflamed and can affect body organs as well.Autoimmune (self immunity) system of the body plays a role in the onset of this disease.Any age group can get this disease but middle aged women are more prone .Certain tests and examinations are required to confirm the diagnosis, this includes Rheumatoid factor and C-reactive  protein testing. Most common symptoms of RA include bilateral (both sides of body) joint pain, morning stiffness of joints and fatigue.Physiotherapy can play a major role in maintenance of joint strength and structure.Regular exercise (under guidance of a physiotherapist) along with thermal/cold modalities help in reducing inflammation and pain.If regular exercises are not followed, advanced stages of the disease may see deformation of joints. In addition to joint related exercises, cardiovascular fitness and endurance need to be emphasized upon.Regular physica...
